New House Wishlist

Sunday, 15 January 2017
Some good news to kick off the year - our house completion date is finally confirmed, woo hoo!  Assuming all goes to plan in the next 2 weeks with the legal bits and bobs, then we should get the keys on the 27th of Jan, with us moving in properly the week of the 13th Feb.  The countdown is well and truly on!

I feel like we've been in a bit of limbo for the last month or so, with us knowing that the move was happening *soon* but just not sure exactly when, so I've been trying not to get overly excited.  It also means that our flat is in the early stages of being packed up which is just the worst.  We're at the "looking in cupboards trying to work out what to keep and what to get rid of" stage and so our spare room is chock full of half packed boxes and bin bags full of things for recycling.  Urgh.

It doesn't help that I started buying house stuff in the Boxing Day sales so there's loads of packages of nice new things that I can't use yet which are just taunting me and begging to be unpacked.  This includes a new mattress topper, duvet and pillows from Soak & Sleep which I am DYING to start using but need to wait until we're in the new (kingsize) bed.

Most of the bits I bought in the sales were decor pieces like kitchen things, photo frames, lighting etc - although I did also order our sofa from Next, which is the only furniture I've purchased so far.  We're going for a bit of a copper, marble, white and grey theme and luckily that is really *in* at the moment so it's been pretty easy to find things!

I've put together a wishlist of things that I've either bookmarked or already bought, so this should give you a bit of a sneak peek as to what our decor is going to look like.

Where to find everything
clock  /  baskets  /  floor lamp  /  radio

*The Cox and Cox frames were kindly sent to me (along with some copper bowls and mugs which you'll see when I do a kitchen tour post), so thanks very much to the team for being so generous - I can't wait to hang them up in the new house!

4 New Edinburgh Restaurants to Visit in 2017

Tuesday, 3 January 2017
There seem to be new bars and restaurants popping up all the time in Edinburgh these days, it can be hard to keep up.  I've done my homework and found 4 of the newest kids on the block to check out in 2017.

First up in the list is The Refinery which has recently opened up at the newly refurbished St Andrews Square buildings.  I popped along for a launch party a few months ago and was pretty impressed with the place.  The decor is straight from a #bloggergoals Pinterest board, with fairy lights, wood, and copper everywhere.  If you're looking for an Instagram worthy bar for your next girls cocktail night then give this place a try.

Also taking up residence at St Andrews Square is Dishoom, the first Scottish opening for the London based Iranian cafe group.  If you're looking for a breakfast with a difference then it's worth the wait for a table.  Think fried eggs on chilli cheese toast, bacon naan rolls, masala beans, and bombay omelettes.  <heart eyes emoji>

Hidden away on William St in the West End of town is The Voyage of Buck.  Kirsty and I were recently invited along one evening after work for cocktails and a good old catch up.  The decor and menu is based around the story of a fictional explorer - it feels a bit like stepping back in time! With a vast cocktail menu inspired by William 'Buck' Clarence's travels to Paris, Taipei, Havana, and Cairo, we were struggling to choose but luckily we had a fab waitress who was able to help recommend a few of her faves (every single one - spot on).  I definitely want to go back with Blair soon to try the food and to continue travelling (ha) my way through the cocktail menu.

You may have seen in the news that Leonardo diCaprio recently visited Edinburgh, and this next restaurant was the reason for this trip.  Home, on Queensferry St is run by the people behind popular lunch spot Social Bite, and has a similar social conscience.  There is a Pay It Forward scheme where diners can purchase meals for the homeless, with the whole restaurant opening exclusively for the homeless on Mondays at 3-5pm.  They also offer training and employment opportunities for Edinburgh's most disadvantaged, and 100% of the restaurant shares are owned by the Social Bite homeless charity.  Feel-good dining indeed.
