Getting to Know Me

Sunday, 13 January 2013
The lovely Kloe and Lianne both nominated me for the Leibster Award recently - for those of you who haven't heard of this before, it's basically a tag that you nominate other bloggers to do and is aimed at blogs with less than 200 followers.  It's a nice way of showcasing smaller blogs and is also a nice "getting to know you" type post to write.  I've been wanting to include more "about me" type posts on the blog so this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

So here are the rules:

1) Write 11 facts about yourself
2) Answer the 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you
3) Choose up to 11 blogs (with less than 200 followers) and write 11 questions for them (remember to let them know you've nominated them)

11 Facts About Me

1) Here's an apt one to kick off a list of 11 facts - 11 is my lucky number!  I was born on the 11th at 11 minutes past 10 and I was 11 days late.

2) I work as an Account Manager for an internet marketing company that specialises in travel (our clients are largely luxury hotels).  As an AM that basically means I'm the link between the client and the team in our office - I go to meetings, give them advice, report on the work we've been doing for them and the results we've seen etc.

3) I've got an MA in Psychology (graduated from Edinburgh Uni in 2007)

4) When I was a kid I had 2 imaginary friends - Gooder and Badder - as the names suggest, Gooder was nice and Badder was naughty.  My mum tells me I once drew on the wall in our old house and when told off I said "Badder did it!".

5) When I was really little an iron fell on my head - I was in my grans kitchen and an iron was cooling on the bunker, I pulled the cord and it fell on my head!  To this day I've still got a weird triangular imprint at the top of my forehead that matches the pointy end of an iron - you can see it when I raise my eyebrows, ha!

6) I'm scared of flying.  I'm getting a bit better (this site helped a lot before I flew to Paris last year) but I'm still not ready for a long flight yet.

7) Another fear is mice - this comes from when I had mice in one of my uni flats - they climbed on my bed and in my shoes and everything - it was awful!

8) I'm only little - 5ft 1 at the most.  I make up for my lack of height in width though, lolz.

9) My little sister is going to zipwire off the Wearmouth Bridge this April for Diabetes UK (which is a charity that means a lot to our family) - it sounds terrifying to me!!  You can sponsor the little daredevil here!

10) This is a bit of a controversial one, but despite being Scottish I actually hate ceilidhs!  I'm not sure why, but I just do!

11) B and I moved in together after knowing each other for just 6 months.  We're coming up for our 5 year anniversary in August though so it was definitely the right decision! :)

11 Questions from Kloe and Lianne

As I had 2 sets of questions I've chosen a few from each to make up the 11.

1) What is your favourite all time book to read?
1984 by George Orwell - I only actually got round to reading this for the first time last year but I couldn't put it down, it was fascinating!

2) What's your number one beauty tip?
It's a classic one but, always take your makeup off before bed.  I've got a lot more into skincare in the last year and now I can't imagine going to bed having not cleansed, toned and used some sort of overnight treatment.

3) What is your favourite film, TV show and band?
Film - either The Breakfast Club or Mean Girls
TV show - hard to pick just one as I watch A LOT of TV but my all time favourite is probably FRIENDS - every episode still makes me laugh to this day.  In fact, I might write a post of my top Friends episodes at some point.
Band - As a 27 year old this is probably slightly embarrassing but I'm a huge McFly fan!  I've been to see them live twice, and the second time I actually went all by myself (I was in the 3rd row at the SECC - it was amazing!!)

4) Where in the world would you most like to visit?
B and I both really want to visit New York at some point - although I'll need to get over my fear of flying first.  I'd love to visit all the Friends locations and have lunch in Central Park and go up the Empire State Building etc - it would be amazing!

5) What is your favourite thing about your home country?
My favourite thing about Scotland is probably that it's just a beautiful place - yeah it's cold and it rains a lot, but with landscapes like this we can't really complain!

6) What is your favourite hot drink?
I don't drink hot drinks that often (coffee gives me stomach pains and I'm not a fan of tea) but when I do I tend to get a Starbucks decaff vanilla latte with soy milk.

7) Where is your favourite place to shop?
As you can probably tell from my many hauls, my favourite shop is Primark!  It's just such good value, and even though the clothes aren't the best quality it doesn't really bother me as I tend to get bored of wearing things after a few months anyway.

8) If you were a superhero what would your superpower be?
Time travel!  I'd love to go back in time and live in different eras for a while.  I'd also love to go back to my own past and spy on my former self - particularly on those drunken nights I can't quite remember, like the time I lost my handbag in first year uni.

9) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I'll be 28 in March so 5 years time for me is 33 (jesus....).  By then I'd love to have a house, be married, still be happy in my job, and maybe be thinking about babies!

10) What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
As sad as this is, the first thing I tend to do is reach for my iPhone and scroll through the overnight updates on Twitter.  I'm getting better though and I now only do this at the weekends - so on work days I just get up after my alarm (or after a few snoozes), go for a pee and put in my contact lenses.

11) What was the last film you saw?
I went to see Pitch Perfect with B yesterday afternoon.  I enjoyed it although it wasn't as good as I thought it would be - I expected it to be funnier.  I loved all the glee stuff though, and the main guy was yummy!

  1. I really, really enjoy reading these kinds of posts. I always learn some very interesting and amusing facts about people. #4 in the 'facts' made me chuckle and #7 is just frightening- I'd be scarred for life, too, if mice were crawling on me!
