The Christmas Tag

Wednesday, 12 December 2012
Hello everyone, I hope you are all starting to feel suitably Christmassy?  If not, maybe this will help.  I've seen a few girls use this tag recently (like Jade and Melissa) and since I don't do tags very often I thought it would be a good one to write, especially since I've had a pretty Christmassy week with my 2 parties and getting all my shopping finished (everything is wrapped and ready to go!).

at The Dome in Edinburgh

1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
I love pretty much everything about Christmas (although I do feel like I struggle to get as excited these days as I used to....I blame getting old!) - from coming up with ideas for presents and then buying and wrapping them, putting up the decorations, Christmas parties, getting together with family, and Christmas Day itself.  The time off work is also one of my favourite things about Christmas - I used to just take a few days off and come in during the between Christmas/New Year time but last year I took the whole 2 weeks off and it was amazing (we were moving house during this time so technically it was a bit of a busy period but it was still fairly relaxing!) so I'm doing it again this year - I can't bloody wait!

2. What is your favourite makeup look for the festive season?
I had two Christmas parties this year and at both I went for a gold/bronze sparkly eye look which I think it pretty festive looking.  I'll probably do a toned down version of this for Christmas Day - I'm only going to be at home with my parents, sister and B, so I'm not going for a proper fancy "going out" face!

3. Real or fake tree?
I've never had a real tree, even when I lived at home we always just had a fake one (don't think my mum fancied the idea of all the mess!) so I've carried on that tradition now I have my own place.  Maybe when I've got a little family of my own and a nice big house (ha, I can dream!) then I might start a new tradition and get a real tree each year - we'll see!

4. Giving or receiving presents?
A bit of both - everyone loves receiving presents OBVIOUSLY but in the last few years I think I've actually been more excited about seeing people open the gifts I've got for them than I have been for opening my own.  I think it probably comes from being a bit older and therefore having more money to spend on presents for people, whereas when I was still at school/uni I only bought people like 1 or 2 things each so there wasn't much to get excited about.  This year I've bought lots of little things for everyone (I say "everyone" but I really just mean like 6 people!) and wrapped everything into small parcels so they have lots each - I can't wait for Christmas Day to see them all being opened!

in our old flat last year

5. Do you open your presents in the morning or evening?
Since B and I started living together (4 years) we have a routine of opening our presents together at our flat first thing in the morning, before heading out to one of our parents' houses (whoever's turn it is) to open presents and spend the day with them.  This year we're at my Mum and Dad's so we'll be going down there at about 10.30ish after we've opened the presents from each other.  We'll stay there until early evening before heading back to the flat, then on Boxing Day we'll go out to B's Mums house to do it all over again.

6. Handmade or bought Christmas cards?
I've always just bought cards, mainly because I'm lazy.  Not sure if I'm going to send any this year actually as I kind of completely forgot about it until I read this question!  I'll buy nice ones for my close family though to go with their presents.

7. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone is my all-time favourite Christmas film, although in recent years Elf has become a new favourite (will never beat Home Alone though!).

8. What is your favourite Christmas food?
I don't have a particular favourite part of Christmas dinner - I just love the combination of it all - the turkey, roast potatoes, stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon, chestnuts, even the brussel sprouts!  Oh and just the sheer indulgence of Christmas really - being able to eat pretty much anything you want for 2 two weeks and not feel bad about it - amazing.

I tag you all to do this too! :)
