Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters

Wednesday, 25 July 2012
I know pretty much every blogger out there has written a review of these lip butters so you're all probably sick of seeing them, but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyway!

It seems to be quite in fashion at the moment for brands to release lip products that are essentially a cross between a lipstick and a lip balm, with Revlon Lip Butters, Maybelline Popsticks* and Clinique Chubby Sticks (ha!) all being released in the last few months.

I normally don't wear any colour on my lips and just stick with boring lip balm/vaseline as lipsticks tend to dry my lips out, and lip glosses annoy me because they're so sticky (my hair always ends up stuck to my lips!) - so these lip butters are the perfect consistency for me, right in the middle.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter is somewhere between a lip balm (hence the "butter") and a lipstick.  It contains shea and coconut butter so has a moisturising effect and glides on really smoothly.  The coverage is sheer to medium, so you're left with a lovely subtle (but buildable) shiny colour.  The Lip Butter collection currently has 20 different shades, ranging from very subtle pinks/nudes to richer reds/oranges, all with delicious sounding names like "Candy Apple" and "Raspberry Pie" - mmmm!

The first Lip Butter I bought was Peach Parfait, which I picked up on impulse a few months ago.  It's a really lovely colour - a sort of peachy pink with a touch of coral.  I really love the quilted look packaging, also it's really handy having the tube colour match the product colour as it's  easy to pick out the one you want from your makeup drawer.

When I was in Superdrug yesterday picking up some essentials, as always I couldn't resist a quick nose around the makeup aisle and ended up picking up another two lip butter shades.  I went for a light pink one (Sugar Frosting) and a quite bright orange/coral (Tutti Frutti) - so I now have three in light, medium and bright shades.

Sugar Frosting is a really light pink colour - it took a lot of swatching for any colour to show up at all on my hand!  On the lips though it's a really nice subtle pink, and is perfect for my everyday look.

Tutti Frutti is a bright orange/coral shade, and is one of the more daring colours in my collection (well, daring for me, but probably not so daring for people who wear lipstick a lot!).  I'm not sure how much I really suit having bright colours on my lips, but I'm looking forward to trying out the new look!

Have you tried any of the Revlon Lip Butter shades?  I'm definitely a fan, although I'm not sure I'll be buying any other colours yet - I'm attempting to curb my spending and 3 shades is probably enough for a lipstick novice like me!

Revlon Lip Butters are currently retailing at £7.99 at Boots and Superdrug.

*I have one of the Maybelline Popsticks in Pink Sugar but it's pretty rubbish - it's lovely and pink and glittery in the tube but looks like nothing when it's on your lips, such a let down.
