March Payday Haul

Saturday, 31 March 2012
Went on a good old payday weekend shopping spree today and got myself lots of nice new bits and bobs.

First off, I popped into Lush for the first time EVER (I know!!) to pick up one of their lip scrubs that I'd read about on elevatormusik - I got the bubblegum one and it smells amazing - and then also I couldn't resist picking up a bath melt in Melting Marshmallow.  The lovely Sales Assistant at the till then also gave me a free sample of the Oatifix face mask - will so be trying that out tomorrow afternoon along with the bath melt, when I'll no doubt be hungover after Sam's party!

Then I nipped into Superdrug where I bought some fake nails and lashes (the eyelashes are pre-glued so I'm hoping I get on better with these than I normally do with falsies!), a Collection 2000 lippy in Peachy Keen, a sparkly eyeshadow from Accessorize (didn't even know they did makeup!) and the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation that literally every beauty blogger has been raving about for weeks.

Finally I spent a good few hours in Primark on the lookout for some new spring pieces.  They've got quite a lot of nice stuff in at the moment - loads of blouses/sleeveless shirts that are perfect for dressing up your work wardrobe.  I feel like I got loads here and I only spent £99 which is not too shabby!

Accessories - pink cutout bag £9, diamante ballerina pumps £10, sunglasses £3, pink heart ring £2.50, mint rose bracelet £4, 3 pack skinny belts £2.50, and mint bow belt £2.

Left to right - mint cardigan £12, white lace jacket £15, navy lace shirt dress £15, lilac spotted sleeveless shirt £8, navy cardigan £10, jade & coral peter pan collar tops £6 each (just realised as I checked through my receipt that they only charged me for one of these tops - score!).

Have you been out spending your wages this weekend too?

After about 3 hours in the salon I now have an albino head again - goodbye roots!

Hair History

Tuesday, 27 March 2012
I've got a much needed hair appointment tomorrow evening to get these fugly roots sorted out...

Beautiful....
One problem I'm having though is deciding what to do with the colour.  For the past year or so I've been getting it bleached all over, with the aim of eventually getting to a silver/white blonde colour, but now I'm not so sure (my hair feels like straw!).  However I don't want to go and get it dyed dark either as it will feel like the last year has been a waste and time (and a lot of money!).  Decisions decisions!

Over the years I've had pretty much every colour of hair,so I've been looking through some old pics for inspiration.

Current colour - before my roots came in

Longer and slightly more golden blonde

Shorter and golden blonde
Dark blonde / light brown

Mahogany / red
Dark brown

Chocolate brown

Au naturale!  Before the hair abuse started.

I've also been using various "virtual makeover" sites to try weird and wonderful colours and styles out - I quite like this sort of golden brown colour, so I'll put that one to my hairdresser and see what she says.

Wish me luck!

R(ANTM)

I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of the Next Top Model franchise - I love America's Next Top Model, Britain & Ireland's Next Top Model (aka BINTM....hehe, BINT!), and I've even found myself tuning into Australia's Next Top Model from time to time, although I do tend to find the aussie one a bit *yawn*. Anyway, the point is - I like me some NTM. However, the most recent series of ANTM (the "Allstar" cycle) is really starting to grind my gears, to the point that I've almost given up altogether.

Why you might ask? Well, first of all it seems to get more and more ridiculous with every episode, and not in a good way. Seriously I think Tyra has lost her mind. I get that it's the "allstar" cycle so they've tried hard to make it a bit different, but in doing so they've taken it to the extreme and it's almost become a parody.

The tasks just seem mental - from the bizarre "write a song that contains the line 'Pot Ledom - thats Top Model backwards'" to the so-wrong-it's-almost-right feta salad bowl photoshoot, to the downright dumb video for Tyra's "novel" about a model called Tooke who lives in the mountains (or something shit like that). It's getting embarrassing. You can literally see the shame grow on poor Allisons' face each week.

Oh and did I mention that Lisa has made it to the top 3? Lisa?!! Need I remind you that she peed in an adult nappy/diaper during her cycle?! She peed. In a nappy. In front of other human beings. The bitch is crazy! And also, I hate to be a cow but....she is way too old!! I mean not literally old (I'm sure she's younger than me) but she looks haggard (that's what a crazy life does to you folks).

And finally, don't get me started on the fact that the dreadful Alexandra was classed as an Allstar....

Anyway that's enough from me - I'm away to watch a video of Angelea telling a bunch of Greek VIPs that she needs the loo (yep, that actually happened).

"All y'all are bitches!"

OOTD 26th March

Monday, 26 March 2012
It's my very first Outfit of the Day post!

Smart/casual work outfit on what was probably the first proper nice day of the year (didn't have to wear a coat or anything, summer is on the way!).

Dress is from ASOS, it's the first time I've worn it actually although I bought it a few months ago - I love the laser cut detail on the neckline although I think it might be a bit too revealing for the office (hello boob window!) so will probably keep it for weekend wear from now on.

Cardi and belt are from Primark - I love the cardigan, it's such a sweet colour (looks a bit darker in the picture, but it's actually a light peach).  Weirdly on the bus to work I was sat behind a girl who was wearing this exact same one (and she had the same hair colour as me, and it was up in the same style - very weird).

Boots are also from Primark - these are super comfy, I wear them all the time and they were amazingly cheap.

No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser

My boyfriend got me the new No7 Melting Gel Cleanser from their Beautiful Skin range for my birthday, as he couldn't find the BB cream I'd asked for.  I'm normally quite lazy when it comes to skincare and tend to rely on my good old Simple cleansing wipes far too often, so I was looking forward to trying a new routine.

I've got the Normal/Dry Skin version - if I'd bought it myself I'd probably have gone with the Normal/Oily version as I've got combination skin, but using the Dry one is working out fine so far.  The gimmick with this product is that it's a gel that turns into an oil, that turns into a milk.  So when you squeeze it out it looks like this...

Then when you apply it to your (damp) skin it goes on like an oil.
No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser
Mmmm shiny!
Then when you rinse off it turns into a cleansing milk, leaving your skin feel refreshed but also moisturised.

I've been using this in my morning shower for the past week and at first I didn't think it was anything special, but after a week I can totally see (and feel) a difference in my skin.  My complexion looks a lot smoother, and my pores look reduced, also my skin feels soooo soft.

I would definitely recommend giving this one a shot if you're looking for a new cleanser - in my opinion it's just as good as the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil that I tried earlier this week (from the March Glossy Box) which is around 3 times the price.  Also, you can currently get it in the 3 for 2 deal at Boots - bargain!

Recipe: Spicy Turkey Burgers

Friday, 23 March 2012
My mum got me this burger press for Christmas that I still hadn't got around to using yet, so the other night I found a nice quick and easy (and low fat!) recipe for Spicy Turkey Burgers and decided to give it a go.

Ingredients (serves 3)

600g Turkey mince
4 spring onions
1.5 tablespoons of dark soy sauce
1.5 tablespoons of sweet chilli sauce

Spicy turkey burgers recipe - ingredients

Chop the spring onions and add to a bowl with the mince, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce and season well with salt and pepper.  Mix them all together so it looks like this....

Yuck!
Next, shape into 6 burgers - if like me you have a burger press then you can do this without getting your hands dirty.

Now place under a preheated grill for around 15 minutes, turning occasionally.

I then served mine in ridiculously huge burger buns with some not so healthy (and lazy) oven chips - but I'm sure you could do better!

March Glossy Box

Thursday, 22 March 2012
I'm a bit late with this one, but on the plus side it means I've had a chance to properly try out all of the products before writing the review.

As I mentioned in my February Glossy Box review, the March box was a special designer edition in conjunction with Harrods. I was really excited about this one as I don't tend to buy high end beauty products that often so this would be a nice treat!

The products I had in my box were:

1) Molton Brown - Vitalising Vitamin AB+C Bath & Shower Gel

I've only used Molton Brown shower gels a few times, when I've stayed in nice fancy hotels, but I was looking forward to trying this at home.  It has a nice fresh scent and feels lovely on the skin, also, as with the Como Shambhala shower gel in last months box, it left my skin feeling amazingly smooth afterwards.

2) SK-II - Skin Signature

This is apparently one of the most expensive skincare brands on the market, and is a favourite of celebs like Cate Blanchett - to be honest though I'd never heard of it!  It's a small pot but you only need a little bit at a time so it's probably going to last me ages.  It's got quite a light texture and sinks into the skin fairly fast so you aren't left with that "sticky face" feeling for ages after applying.  It did leave my skin looking and feeling smooth, but to be honest the effect wasn't drastically different to any other moisturiser I'd used before.  I've checked the Harrods website and a full sized pot is currently selling for £127(!), so I can safely say I won't be buying this, even though I did quite enjoy using it.

3) Valentino - Valentina Perfume

I absolutely LOVE this.  My normal day to day perfumes are quite "teenage girl"-ish (Vera Wang Princess, Britney Spears Fantasy, Katy Perry Purr) so this is a really refreshing change to something a bit more classic.  The only negative point is that it's such a tiny bottle, so I'm trying not to use it too much as I don't want it to run out!  It's the first Glossy Box item that I've been seriously tempted to buy, although it's retailing at £40-50 so I'm not sure I can justify the purchase yet!

4) Clarins - Extra Firming Body Cream

Bit boring this one, I'm not a big fan of body creams as I'm far too lazy to use them properly (it's the standing around waiting for the cream to dry that I can't be doing with).  This one does feel nice on my skin though, and it sinks in quickly though so there's no standing around waving your arms like wings to get them to dry.  I haven't used it enough to tell if it's any good at "firming" though.

5) Shu Uemura - Cleansing Beauty Oil

I have to confess that I'm a bit lazy when it comes to skincare, and I tend to rely on my trusty Simple Cleansing Wipes most of the time.  I'd never tried a cleansing oil before, and at first when I poured this onto my hand I was a bit surprised that it was an actual oil (not sure what I was expecting!).  It feels a bit odd when you put it on your face as it feels a bit like you've got mega greasy skin, but once you add water it turns into a normal cleanser.  Once I'd patted my face dry I could feel the effects immediately - my skin felt super soft and my pores looked smaller.  This is definitely one I'd consider buying.

6) Lancome - Hypnose Drama Mascara

I'd seen quite a lot of ads for this one so it was one of the few products that I'd actually heard of before getting them in a box.  To be honest I didn't feel like it was anything special, the quality did seem better than most high street mascaras (like the new Maybelline Falsies Flared) but I wasn't overly enthused by the end result, it left my lashes looking quite long but took a few coats for them to look full.  No contest when compared to my current favourite mascara - Benefit They're Real!

Did any of you receive this months Glossy box?  What did you think of yours?

LOreal Studio Secrets Primer

Wednesday, 21 March 2012
Just a quick post today to tell you about one of my current favourite products - LOreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer (bit of a mouthful!).  I never used to really wear primers that often, but I picked this up as an impulse buy when I was in Boots a few months ago (I think it was on offer, as it's currently £14.29 on the Boots website and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have paid that much on a random impulse).

It's got a sort of foamy/spongy texture to it, and feels quite similar to a silicon based primer product from Nivea (I think) that I used to use years ago.  It makes my skin feel unbelievably soft and smooth (I can't stop touching my face!), also since I've started using it I feel like my foundation has less slippage during the day.

So yeah, I've become a primer convert!  In fact, I had a bit of a Boots online shopping spree yesterday lunchtime and basically spent all of my birthday money on make up (oops) - they have a Benefit offer on at the moment where you get a free "that gal" brightening primer when you buy 2 products, so I'll try that one out later on in the week when my stuff arrives and will see how it compares to LOreal.
